Cashmere And Wool Care Guide
Cashmere & Wool Care Guide
Luxurious, soft, and timeless — cashmere and wool are beautiful natural fibres that deserve a little extra care to keep them looking their best. Follow these simple tips to help your garments stay fresh, soft, and long-lasting:
Cashmere Care
-
Wear 3 Times, Then Wash: Cashmere benefits from being worn a few times before washing. We recommend washing after every 3 wears to maintain softness and shape.
-
Hand Wash or Gentle Cycle: Wash cashmere by hand in cold water with a mild, cashmere-specific detergent. Alternatively, use your machine’s delicate cycle, placing the garment in a mesh laundry bag.
-
Dry Flat: Always reshape and lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Never hang, as this can cause stretching.
-
Depilling Knitwear:
Pilling (sometimes referred to as bobbling) is the natural formation of small, fuzzy balls on the surface of wool and cashmere garments. It is caused by friction during regular wear and varies depending on the fibre type, garment construction, knit density, and lifestyle factors.
Due to the nature of cashmere and other natural fibres, some pilling is normal and expected, especially in areas of frequent rubbing such as under the arms, along sleeves, or where a handbag strap rests.
Loosely knitted garments may pill more easily than tightly knitted ones, and more active wearers may also experience more pilling.
To minimise pilling:-
Turn garments inside out before washing.
-
Avoid using fabric softeners.
-
Reduce friction by being mindful of surfaces that rub against your knitwear (desks, car seats, bag straps, etc.).
To remove pilling:
-
Gently pick off small pills by hand after washing and drying.
-
Use a cashmere comb lightly over the fabric to lift pills — avoid using on large areas of heavy pilling.
-
Fabric shavers can also be used carefully — always follow the instructions specific to your machine.
-
Many professional drycleaners offer depilling services if needed.
-
Always avoid hanging cashmere to maintain its shape.
-
Wool Care
-
Spot Clean When Possible: Wool naturally resists dirt and odours. Spot clean minor stains to avoid overwashing.
-
Wash Sparingly: Wash wool items by hand in cool water with a wool-friendly detergent, or dry clean according to the care label.
-
Dry Flat: After washing, press gently with a towel to remove excess water, then lay flat to dry in a well-ventilated area.
-
Avoid Heat: Never tumble dry wool. Exposure to heat can cause shrinkage and damage to the fibres.
-
Storage: Fold wool garments rather than hanging to prevent stretching. Store with cedar blocks or lavender sachets to help deter moths.
With the right care, your cashmere and wool garments will stay luxuriously soft, beautiful, and ready to wear season after season.
*Always refer to the individual garment’s care label for the most accurate instructions.
